I went on a trip to Yanagawa with my 2 children. I’ll report how it was in Yanagawa with my kids.
Yanagawa is famous for traditional Japanese river cruising, so it’s very popular with both Japanese and people from other countries.

We went to Yanagawa river cruising.
I found some tours to enjoy Yanagawa river cruising！
Half-Day Guided Yanagawa River Cruise and Grilled Eel Lunch【klook】
We had to wait for about 30 minutes, so went to the shrine near the boat dock.
We found such a miracle pine tree!

Yanagawa river cruising took about one hour.
While we were on the boat, the boat man told us about Yanagawa’s history and sang traditional boat songs.
He was very good at telling jokes. We enjoyed riding on the boat so much.
Yanagawa Specialty Lunch: Grilled Eel
After we got off the boat, we found several Yanagawa specialty restaurants around the boat dock.
Yanagawa’s famous food is grilled eel with sweet soy sauce in a bamboo steamer↓
The grilled eel was sooooo delicious!
In Japan, grilled eel is quite expensive and a kind of luxury food, so it was the first time for my kids to have it.
They really loved it and insisted that they wanted to go to a grilled eel restaurant again soon(^^;)
Craft Activity: Traditional Japanese Decorations for Girl’s Day
Next, we went to a souvenir shop.
There, the shop owner taught us how to make traditional Japanese decorations for Girl’s Day in March.
Yanagawa is famous for Girl’s Day decorations called sagemon or tsutsumimari.
This is tsutsumimari.↓
We made tsusumimari using cloth, styrofoam balls, and glue.
They were not so difficult to make, so even my 8-year-old son made the decorations very well.

After the activity, we went to Kamenoi Hotel Yanagawa.

We had a nice river view and saw a cruising boat from the window.
For me, it was very attractive that we had a massage chair in the room!
Japanese tea and snacks（free）.
There is a quite big refrigerator.
Private bath in Kamenoi Hotel Yanagawa
Kamenoi Hotel Yanagawa has public baths for men and women and also have public baths.
It’s an optional service （2000yen) and we had to make a reservation to use a private bath.
After a boy turned 7 years old, he is not allowed to go to a public bath with mom in many Japanese public bath.
My son is 8 years old, so I always chose a hotel that has a private bath.
